About the event
Having met the Abbott World Marathon Majors judging criteria in 2024, and looking to do so again in 2025 and 2026, the Shanghai Marathon will become an Abbott World Marathon Major in 2027.
Established in 1996, the Shanghai Marathon has been held 27 times and, in 2020, became the first event in China to be awarded the Platinum Label by World Athletics. Its route takes runners past iconic landmarks such as the Bund, the Lujiazui skyline, and the historic streets of downtown Shanghai. With a flat, fast course and enthusiastic local crowd, it's an ideal race for both setting personal bests and enjoying unforgettable views of the city.
